Vastu and modern RCC design can coexist
Many Pune families want a home that respects Vastu without forcing the plan into an awkward shape. The good news is that most core Vastu guidelines concern orientation and room placement, which a good architect can accommodate within a modern RCC-framed design.
Plot, entrance and orientation
Start with the plot and entrance. East and north-facing entrances are traditionally preferred, with the main door placed in an auspicious section of that direction. On a typical rectangular Pune plot, this is usually achievable without compromising the structure.
Room placement that follows the zones
Place the kitchen in the south-east, the zone of fire, and plan the cooking platform so the cook faces east while working. The master bedroom sits well in the south-west - the heaviest, most stable zone - while children's or guest bedrooms fit naturally in the north-west.
The north-east and the staircase
Reserve the north-east for the pooja room or for open, light spaces: this zone should stay light and uncluttered, which also suits modern design. Staircases are traditionally placed in the south or west; avoid putting a staircase in the exact centre of the house (the brahmasthan), which should remain open.
Plot shapes and practical remedies
Plot shape matters in classical Vastu: square or rectangular plots facing the cardinal directions are considered ideal, and gaumukhi plots (narrow front, wide rear) are preferred for homes. If your plot is irregular, discuss remedies with your architect rather than rejecting a well-located plot outright.
Raise Vastu at the drawing stage
The practical approach is to share your Vastu priorities with your architect at the drawing stage, not after the plan is frozen. Structural elements like columns, beams and staircases are expensive to move later, while room allocations and door positions are cheap to adjust early.
Building your Vastu-aligned home
Vastu preferences should be discussed with your architect before plans are approved. If they matter to your family, share the approved drawings with H&H SPACES before execution so the agreed construction scope can reflect those decisions. Call +91 84840 57448 to discuss your project.
